Application of Angle Tower

2025-10-22

Corner tower is a type of iron tower used at the corners of transmission lines. It mainly achieves tension balance through the tensile characteristics of the outer main materials, and its asymmetric structure can reduce steel consumption by 5% to 10%. As an important branch of the tower family, this facility often adopts a "dry" structure in 220kV and above lines, and the number of insulators is related to the voltage level and pollution zone level. A typical 110kV line corner tower is equipped with 8 insulators.
The facility adopts an L-shaped insulator string layout scheme and is equipped with a dedicated tilt adjustment device to meet the installation requirements at corners. The foundation of a large angle tower needs to withstand vertical loads, horizontal tensile forces, and torsional forces, and is often designed with cast-in-place pile foundations. The wire connection achieves current conduction through the drainage wire, and the design of the iron tower cross arm includes an extension section and an outer corner series hanging structure.
The research on the theory of corner towers began with the asymmetric design demonstration by Fan Shixian et al. in 2005. In 2019, the Chongqing team's research and development of corner tower products obtained 9 invention patents.
