China has achieved multiple technological breakthroughs in the field of tower crossing:
Chimney crossing tower: reinforced concrete cylinder structure is used to support conductors and overhead ground wires to cross rivers, lakes, straits and other obstacles, which can be divided into straight crossing towers and tension/corner crossing towers.
Application of composite materials: Glass fiber reinforced resin based composite cross arm is tested in ultra-high voltage crossing towers, reducing tower weight by 12%.
Intelligent monitoring system: Fiber optic strain sensors and video monitoring devices are commonly installed on large-span towers to monitor abnormal states such as tower tilt and bolt loosening in real time.
As of 2023, the tallest transmission tower in China is the Zhoushan 380 meter transmission tower, with a span of 2756 meters, setting a world record for the tallest transmission tower.
