Electric steel tower is an important supporting structure for transmission lines, its structure and dimension standards can directly affect safe operation and construction costs of power grids. - Tower Category and Foundation Dimensions:
If Power transmission towers are categorized by functions,it includes tangent towers( suspending towers) ,tension towers (strain towers) ,Angle towers (corner towers) ,terminal towers etc., each kind of tower featuring distinct structural dimensions compared with other kinds. For examples:
Tangent towers are applied in straight-line segments of electric power lines, generally its height ranges from 20 meters to 50 meters, its base width (distance between the two bottom legs) is equal to r 1/10 to 1/8 of tower height, its function is to balances structural stability and material cost, tension towers(strain towers) is required to withstand higher horizontal tension than tangent towers, so their height can reach the height ranging from 30 to 60 meters with a larger base width ratio;some designs for this angle tower adopt widened bases or additional auxiliary support structures. For angle towers, their cross-arm length and tower body inclination can be adjusted according to turning angle (e.g., 30°, 60°, 90°) so as to ensure uniform distribution of conductor tension.

A electrical power transmission tower consists of main members such as angle steel or steel pipes,diagonal members, auxiliary members and connecting parts, and the dimensions of each part must be in accordance with the following standards: dimension of angle steel for popular application ranges from L63×5 to L200×16 (side length × thickness, unit: mm); the diameter of steel pipes ranges from Φ100 mm to Φ600 mm, and the wall thickness of adjusting plates is usually ranges from 8mm to 20 mm, and the diameter of bolt holes is 1–1.5 mm larger than the nominal diameter of bolts so as to ensure connection strength of the whole structure. For ladders and guard rings, spacing between every two ladder rungs shall not exceed 300mm, and the diameter of guard rings is 600–800 mm to guarantee safety of personnel for operation and maintenance.
